I adopted Tangelo almost a year ago along with another kitten from a different litter, and they have grown up together ever since. He also has a big brother, Bailey, our Shih Tzu. Together they have become their own little family, and Tangelo is such a special part of mine.Tangelo is only 1 year old. He’s my sweet orange and white boy with the most laid-back personality. He loves cuddling, relaxing around the house, spending time with his furry siblings, and especially getting his favorite chicken snacks. He has his playful moments too, so when he suddenly became extremely tired, stopped playing like himself, and began moving more slowly, I knew something wasn’t right.I took him to the veterinarian, where bloodwork revealed that Tangelo is suffering from life-threatening severe anemia. His hematocrit/PCV is only 8% and his hemoglobin is 2.6 g/dL. He also tested positive for FeLV. His veterinarian started him on prednisolone and two antibiotics while treating possible causes of his anemia, but because his red blood cell levels are so dangerously low, a blood transfusion has also been recommended.My regular veterinarian does not perform blood transfusions, so I began contacting emergency hospitals that could provide the care Tangelo may need. I have now been quoted approximately $3,000 for emergency treatment and a blood transfusion.Despite everything his little body is going through, Tangelo is still trying. He’s extremely tired and his appetite has decreased significantly, but he’s still eating small amounts, drinking some water, getting up and walking around, and remaining alert and responsive. I can still see my sweet boy in there, and I’m doing everything I can to fight alongside him.Tangelo is only one year old and has so much life ahead of him. He has another young cat to grow up with, his dog brother Bailey, cuddles to give, chicken snacks to enjoy, and a family that loves him tremendously. I am reaching out to every resource I can find because I don’t want finances to be the reason I cannot pursue the treatment his veterinarians recommend. Any assistance toward Tangelo’s emergency medical care would mean more than I can express. I just want to give my little guy every reasonable chance to receive the treatment he needs, recover, and get back to being Tangelo.
