Hi, my name is Jenny. I don’t want to do this, but I need help raising money to help my cat Belle get her surgery to help her heal. She has been a companion animal that has helped me through my stage 4 cancer treatment. We think she is mostly deaf right now as well. Belle is now being referred to a specialist for a surgery called TECA-BO. Total Ear Canal Ablation and Bulla Osteotomy. This surgery involves the complete removal of the ear canal and tympanic bulla (middle ear), leaving only the ear flap (pinna) remaining. It allows the infected, abnormal ear tissue to be removed, reducing chronic pain and inflammation and giving the pet an improved quality of life. The ear drum and the bones of the middle ear will also be removed permanently. Overall, the prognosis for pets receiving a TECA-BO is very good. The pet is relieved of a source of chronic pain and inflammation, and also returns back to its playful social self for the most part. Belle would also have her hearing return, or it will sound like she’s healing with ear plugs in. It sounds awful, but she needs the surgery to improve any type of quality of life for her. It is 100% necessary because the polyp is already big and the infection from it won’t heal until the source is gone. It can also start to block her from breathing. I have Care Credit, but the ER vet that misdiagnosed her twice, maxed it out for nothing beneficial. Her treatment and surgery at the regular vet were around $600. While both ER visits ended up being $900. I’m on long term disability from my cancer treatment I went through, so my income is limited right now. The price for the surgery varies a lot and I won’t know the exact amount until the consultation. I’ve seen price ranges from $500 all the way up to $5,000 on the higher end. I’ll update the amount once I find out. I know some people think it’s ridiculous to spend that much on a pet surgery, but my cats are family and have helped me get through cancer. If she was older, it might be different too, but she just turned 4 in May. Thank you all for taking time to read through this!
