Mischief is a 6-year-old guinea pig with a severe dental abscess. She cannot eat. She is losing weight daily. And the surgery that could save her life costs more than I can afford. Missy’s condition has been deteriorating for nearly a month. The recommended treatment includes a CT scan of the head and skull prior to dental surgery. The complete estimated cost for diagnostics and surgery is $2,611.00. Outside of this condition, Missy is otherwise healthy: no heart disease, no organ failure. The only thing threatening her life is her inability to eat, and the only thing standing between her and surgery is money.
I am a single mother, currently unemployed and I have worked hard to piece together what I can. I have secured funding to $1,250. That leaves a remaining gap of $1,361.00 that I cannot close on my own. I have exhausted every option available to me.
I am also acutely aware of how limited funding resources are for small exotic pets. There is no shortage of assistance for dogs and cats, but guinea pigs and other small animals are largely overlooked. Missy’s only alternative, if this surgery cannot happen, is euthanasia. I refuse to accept that a treatable dental condition is a death sentence for an otherwise healthy animal who still has life left to live. Any help is very deeply appreciated.
